He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Messinger and Delia Messinger; his wife Deborah Messinger; his son Stephen Ray Watkins; and his siblings, Charlie, Jerry Messinger and Eileen Messinger.

He is survived by: his children, Sherry Ross (Randy), Debbie Messinger and Jimmy Watkins (Kellye); and his grandchildren, Michael Ross, Lori Ross, Jordan Hatcher (Nick), Jodie Watkins and Jana Watkins. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces nephews and family friends.
