He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Potts and Ellen Potts; and his brother Tandy Hawks. He is survived by: his wife Caroline Hawks; his daughters, Tonya Sweeney (Jay), Tiffany Hawks, Elizabeth Brown and Sarah Brown; and his sisters, Darlene Burlien (Jim) and Connie Johnson (Larry).
