He was predeceased by: his parent Robert Lee; his wife Opal Lee Ivey Newgent; his sons, Troy Newgent and Jeff Newgent; his siblings, Lorina Horton, Rachel Nichols, Mattie Kate Ivey, Eva Nell Newgent, Mary Ellen Newgent, Alti Leona Newgent, L. B. Newgent, J. T. Newgent, James Wesley Newgent, Arnold Ray Newgent, Granvil Lee Newgent and William Earl Newgent; and his grandson Scott Smartt.
He is survived by: his parent Bertha Mae Towry Newgent; his wife Paulette Newgent; his daughter Derein L. Smith; his son-in-law Joe Placencia of Fayetteville, TN; and his stepsons, Allen Taylor and David Taylor. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren.
