He is survived by: his parents, William Erskin and Audrey Felicia Gatlin Townsend; his siblings, Joe L., Ozro Townsend, Evelyn Idell Townsend Newton, Lorell Townsend Forsyth and Frances M. Townsend; his wife Judy Harrison Townsend of Anthony Hill, TN; and his brothers, Matthew B. Townsend of Five Points, TN and Chalmus Townsend of Minor Hill, TN. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
