He was predeceased by: his brothers, Charles Bates and Jimmy Bates. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Bates (Whitfield); his children, Bill Bates (Missy Campbell) of Kelso, TN, Evelyn Wise (Jason) of Fayetteville, TN and Cherry Bates of Fayetteville, TN; his grandchildren, Dakota, Alex, Madysen Wise, Angel Bates, Daniel Campbell (Erin) and Katie Fanning (Jesse); his sisters, Martha Mires (Harold) of Vanntown, TN, Shirley Holloway of Jackson, GA, Paula Halcomb (Harry) of Flintville, TN and Linda Brazier of Fayetteville, TN; and his sister-in-law Marsha Bates of Lynchburg, TN. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
