He is survived by: his wife Mary Agnes Fanning Shaefer; and his children, Ann Marie Shaver, Robert H. Schaefer, James Schaefer, Suzanne Schaefer and Melissa Manwaring. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
