He was predeceased by: his parents, Adolph Arthur Fischer and Francis Copeland Fischer; his wife Gretel Fischer; his daughter Donna Cole; and his siblings, Adolph Fischer, Louis Fischer, Hollis Fischer and Tennie Gourley.

He is survived by: his children, Marion White (Donnie), Barbara Gatlin and James Fischer, Jr. (Julie); and his sisters, Fannie Jones and Ida Pitts (Bebus). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren.
