He was predeceased by: his parents, Ed L. Rice and Thelma Bailey Rice; and his siblings, Luther Rice, Layton Rice, Maude Callahan, Nola Briggs, Pansy Hensley and Hazel Riggs.
He is survived by: his wife Charlotte Haynes Rice; his children, Randy Rice (Stephanie) of Erwin and Pam Turner (Rick) of Erwin; his granddaughter Brittany McInturff (Ryan) of Erwin; his great grandchild Levi McInturff; his sister Lousie Bostic of Unicoi; and his stepchildren, David Effler (Joan) of Erwin, Ann Jill Lovette (Timothy) of Jonesborough, Sandy Stelter of Johnson City, Anthony Effler (Regina) of Erwin and Nathaniel Effler of Erwin. He is also survived by step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
