He was predeceased by: his parents, Walmer Gardner and Novella Gardner (Johnson); and his sister Lisa S. Gardner of Kingsport. He is survived by: his sister Nancy (Bill Jessee); his nephews, Wade Jessee and Brady Jessee (Amanda); his great-niece Caty; and his great-nephew Zane.
