He is survived by: his sons, Douglas Lee Gillenwater of Erwin and John Paul Gillenwater of Erwin; his granddaughters, Kayla Gillenwater, Katy Burk, Breana Gillenwater, Anna Marie Stonecipher and Angel Thomason; his sisters, Peggy Jo Quillen and Evalena Bailey (Tina); his niece Lisa Wells; his nephew Toney Quillen; and his sisters-in-law, Kathy Tipton and Mamie King.
