He was predeceased by: his parents, Starlin Whitson and Anna Mae Johnson Whitson; his siblings, Buford Whitson and Susie Whitson Harris; and his granddaughter Ashley Bennett.

He is survived by: his wife Faye Whitson; his children, Anthony Whitson, Chuck VanHoy and Hope VanHoy; his grandsons, Coty VanHoy, Tanner VanHoy, Gavin Whitson and Gabe Whitson; his great grandchildren, Kristian Jones, Kaidan Jones, Devon Jones, Kota VanHoy, Zander VanHoy and Ellie Whitson; and his siblings, Bradford Whitson, Gene Whitson, Eddie Whitson, Randy "Runt" Whitson, Martha Gale and Trula Carter.
