He was predeceased by: his parent Jean Self Medlin; his wife Lee McMillan Self; his son Franklin Glen Self; his brother Bobby Self; and his sister-in-law Sue Kalmar.
He is survived by: his children, Marlene Nelson (Jeff) of Pace, Florida and Jeffrey Self (Sarah) of St. Louis, Missouri; his grandchildren, Christopher Nelson, Ashley and Madison Humme; his sister Louise McCormick of Boston; his uncle Mack Self of Raleigh; and his sisters-in-law, Barbara Rushing, ShirleyMcMillan and Linda Wadkins.
