He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Thornton and Sallie Myrtle Thornton; his wife Mary Alice Ray Thornton; and his brothers, Arthur Thornton, John Wyman Thornton, Winston Thornton and Jesse Walter Thornton.
He is survived by: his children, John Thornton of Elizabethton, TN and Gina Ramirez Ponce (Salvador) of Elizabethton, TN; and his sister Mary King of Benton, TN. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, December 8th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and at 8:00 PM. A funeral service was held on Monday, December 9th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home (163 River St, Ellijay, GA 30540).
