He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Thomas and Sadie Lee Haynes McElhaney; and his siblings, Jesse Lee, Billy McElhaney and Sarah Elizabeth McElhaney.
He is survived by: his wife Jean Woodside McElhaney; his sister Mary Ann Underwood (William); and his nieces and nephews, Amy Jones, Dana Wilder and Craig McElhaney.
