He was predeceased by: his parents, Glynn L. Gates and Ava Gates; his sister-in-law Linda Gates; and his nephew Dwayne Carlton. He is survived by: his brother Robert "Lighting" Gates; his niece Teresa Locke; his great-niece Autumn Locke; and his great-nephew Cody Carlton.
