He was predeceased by: his parents, Amos Sutherland and Lucille Bowman Sutherland; and his brothers, W. L. and Gary Sutherland. He is survived by: his siblings, Linda Joyce Russell, Debbie Baird, Margie Brewer, Faye King, Bevla Worley and Allen Sutherland. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
