He was predeceased by: his parents, Odis McDowell and Clemmie McDowell; and his siblings, J. B., Billy McDowell, Iva Jean McDowell and Rita Bowman.
He is survived by: his close friend Rose Thurman; his siblings, Vera Rains of Dunlap, Louise McDowell of Dunlap, Loraine Ottinger Hixson (Danny), Marie Mathis (Frank) of Murphy, NC and Randy McDowell; and his friend John McGill. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
