He was predeceased by: his son Larry LaVan Keener. He is survived by: his wife Reva J. Keener; his children, Katrina Walker, James Elbert Keener Neeley, Carl, Glenn, Jimmie and Lonnie Keener; and his sister Essie Keener. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
