He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Hughes and Bernice King Hughes. He is survived by: his brother Eddie Hughes; his children, Christy Hughes and Scottie (Angela Hughes); his grandchildren, Mallory Ellard, Adam Hughes, Tyler Sharp and Garrett Shepperd; and his siblings, Bill Hughes, Wesley Hughes, Brenda Byrd, Margie Williamson and Sharon Franklin. He is also survived by Several Nieces and Nephews.
