She was predeceased by: her parent Thomas Lyons; her husband Dumas Melton; her daughter Barbara Cherry; her siblings, Van Lyons and Jewell Greenup; and her grandchild Shawn Cherry.
She is survived by: her parent Dessie Elkins Lyons; her children, Thomas W. Melton (Kaye) and Judy Lyons (Leamon); and also Dover. She is also survived by five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.
