He was predeceased by: his parents, Brown Messer and Lucy Willis Messer; his parents-in-law, Hubert and Louvenia Hill; and his siblings-in-law, Luther Henderson and Thelma Hill.
He is survived by: his wife Thelma Messer; his grandchildren, Dusty Williams (Tonya), Megan Burgin (Kenny), Shane Messer (Holly), Darissa Collins (Jason), Kayla Warren (Gene), Chelsey Williams (Tyler Roberts) and Emily Messer; his brother Clyde Messer (Joyce); his siblings-in-law, Hubert Hill Jr., Burnett Ray Hill (Betty) and Frances Henderson of Del Rio; and his sisters, Sue Suggs (Chester) of Newport and Mary Stewart (Warren) of Sistersville, WV.. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
