He was predeceased by: his parents, James Whitaker and Catherine Whitaker; his son Robert Michael Whitaker; his brother James Charles Whitaker; his former wife Mary Whitaker; his sister Susan Marie Malone; and his former spouse Bill Malone.
He is survived by: his wife Rhoda Ruth Whitaker; his children, Jeffrey Thomas Whitaker of Buffalo, NY, Lynn Marie Doyle (John) of Lindale, TX and Julie Ann Suarez of Niota; and his grandchildren, Samantha (Mike), Jeffrey, Ashley, Jacqueline, Mia Leticia, Adam (Lauren), Ryan (Sarah), Joshua and Lydia. He is also survived by 4 Great Grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, February 16th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home (521 N Jackson St, Athens, TN 37371). A Mass was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Saint Mary's Catholic Church (1291 E Madison Ave, Athens, TN 37303). A graveside service was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
