He was predeceased by: his parents, Buel Cox and Anna Cox; his brother Waymon Cox; and his aunt Ruth Webb. He is survived by: his wife May Cox; his children, Ashley Smallwood of Murfreesboro, TN, Emily Wanless and Michael Cox of Crossville, TN; his granddaughter Isabella Smallwood; and his sisters, Edna Grooms and Ellen Dombrowski of Chattanooga, TN. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
