He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Spencer and Lillian Spencer (Crocker); his daughter Amy Lynn; his sister Carolyn; and his grandchildren, Taylor and Jacob.

He is survived by: his wife Susan; his children, Julie Mason (Spencer) and Mark Spencer (Maria); his siblings, Dawn Balent (Mike), Gwen Winans (Larry), Jim Spencer (Althea) and Gary Spencer (Nancy); and his grandchildren, Matt Mason (Karen), Justin Mason (Chelsea), Brandon Mason (Alexa), Emma Mason, Alexis Hammitt (John), Zachary Francis and Eric Zaborniak (Hannah). He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.
