He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Harry D. Varney and Phyllis Varney; his former wife Nancy Chenevert; his wife Janet Soncrant Varney; his children, Sarah E. Varney of Rye, NY, John D. Varney of Florida and Charles J. Varney of Minnesota; his grandchildren, Elinor and Matthew Vizard of Rye, NY; his stepchildren, Kevin Soncrant (Raquel) of Las Vegas, NV and Stacy Fromholz; and his grandsons, Hunter and Spencer of Indiana.
