He was predeceased by: his parents, Gaines Phillips and Kate Phillips (Solesbee); his son Sherman Gaines Phillips; his sister Jewel; his brothers-in-law, Earl Williams, Bob Merryman and Ed Butler; and his in-laws, W. M. and Bobbye Kemmer.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Kemmer Phillips; his daughter Sara Phillips Edwards (Russ); his grandchildren, Kalynn Phillips, Ella Grace Edwards and Hayden Edwards; and his siblings, Larry Phillips (Charlotte), Sandra Merryman and Kathy Butler. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
