He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Oakes and Willie Oakes (Lee); his son Gregory Oakes; his grandsons, Joshua Oakes and Anthony James Oakes; and his siblings, Howard Oakes and Martha Emogene Overbay.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Etta Oakes (Bradshaw); his children, Anthony Oakes, Timothy Shayne Oakes, Melissa Oakes and Rodney Oakes (Candy); his grandchildren, Eric Oakes, Amanda Newcome (Michael) and Tyler Pelfrey (Ashley); his great grandchildren, Brodix Newcome, Shelby Newcome, Lane Pelfrey, Raylan Pelfrey, Carsen Blackmon, Maddy Belle Blackmon and Marley Blackmon; and his sister Edwina Davidson.
