He is survived by: his daughter Karen Hunter of Winston-Salem, NC; his grandchildren, James Andrew Phipps III, Samantha Phipps, Nichole Emerson, Ray Phipps, Frank Phipps and Sam Phipps; and his sister-in-law Margot Phipps. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren.
