He was predeceased by: his parents, Bailey B. Higdon and Betty Burney Higdon; his brother Wally Higdon; his stepdaughter Shelleen Gillotti Adkins; and his stepgrandson Lee Roberts.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Muller Higdon; his stepchildren, Farris Gillotti, Tommie Roberts, Lisa Kimberly, Roxanne Morris, Tammie Evans and Tina Evans; and his sisters, Cheryl Elliott and Connie Haley. He is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
