He was predeceased by: his parents, Milton Gillenwater and Mima Gillenwater; and his siblings, Nina Catron, Myrtle Lawson, Olene Starnes, Paul Gillenwater and Fred Gillenwater.

He is survived by: his wife Hazel Chesney Gillenwater; his daughter Martha Ann; his son-in-law Tracey Paul; his grandson Cole Neff; his siblings, Dorothy Kimbler (William), Alice Carter, Carson Gillenwater (Buck) and Dale Gillenwater (Ann); and also, Makynli Yarbrough and Cella Chastain. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
