He was predeceased by: his parents, Jennie Young Gafford and Ernest Gafford; his wife Shirley Carrick Gafford; his brother Laymon Gafford; his children, Chuck Gafford and Sherrie Vigus; and his daughter-in-law Donna Gafford.

He is survived by: his children, Rick Gafford (Patsy), Tim Gafford and Lynn Gafford. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
