He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Rice and Lucy Elizabeth Green Rice; and his brother David Rice. He is survived by: his wife Jonie Howell Rice of Columbia; his stepdaughters, Jeannie Black of Columbia and Jennifer Dickins (Doug) of Columbia; and his nieces, Teresa Mitchell Black (James) of Santa Fe, Lisa Rice Lovett (David) of Columbia and Joan Rice Rochester (Chris) of Columbia.
