He was predeceased by: his parents, Hardy Allen Potts and Etta Mae Kelley Potts; his wife Dorothy Barnes Potts; his son Jerry Lee Potts; and his siblings, Addis, Vester, Carl, Cleve, Dallas Potts, Jewell Valentine and Louise McKee.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Hayden Potts, Brent Potts (Kristen), Jennifer Potts, Jessica Hickerson (Jonathan), Joe Woodard (Dana), Jamie Burns and Laura Barber (Neyland); his daughter-in-law Vickie Potts Turnbow; his sister Allene Lovell; his siblings-in-law, Bobby Barnes (Sylvia) and Mora Potts (Glenda Potts); and his close friend Lee Rogers. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
