He was predeceased by: his parents, Everette Lee Bates and Tommie Ruth Black Bates; and his sister Sammye Jo Bates Lawson. He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Thompson; his daughter Kimberly Bates (Jimmy Pruitt); his grandchildren, Dalton Ray Greggs and Savanna Jane Greggs (Brandon Deaton); his great grandchild Stryker Daniel Deaton; his nephew Mike Thompson; and his cousin Linda Bates Robinson.
