He was predeceased by: his parents, Tom Clifford and Susie Mae Hasting May; his wife Sheila May; his stepfather James E. Shelton; and his sisters, Caroline Burton, Peggy Holley and Phyllis Holt.

He is survived by: his sons, Steve May of Louden, TN and Randy May (Missy) of Knoxville, TN; his brother Bubba Shelton; and his close friends, Butch Smith, Rick Violet and Bill T.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
