He is survived by: his children, Julie Hutcherson (David), Ritchie Grooms and Buddy Grooms; his siblings, Joye Davidson (Danny), Floye Malugin (Roger) and Leon Grooms (Rita); and his caregiver Kelley Grooms Morton. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
