He was predeceased by: his parents, Jim Lanier and Anne Brown Lanier; his wife Cynde Lanier; and his siblings, Charles Lanier and Joyce Long.

He is survived by: his daughter Heather "Kid" Lanier (Lee Walters). He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
