He is survived by: his wife Teresa Mooningham; his sons, Ricky Wayne Cates of Columbia, Lonnie Dale Cates of Lewisburg and Robert Wayne Cates (Angie) of Tullahoma; his siblings, Elbert Cates (Penny) of Columbia, Alex Cates (Angela) of Columbia, Edward Cates (Judy) of Lewisburg, Jimmy Cates of Alabama, Glenn Cates (Tammy) of Hampshire, George Cates of Columbia and Amy Dunnivant of Summertown; and his friend Rickey Taylor, Sr. of Santa Fe. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
