He was predeceased by: his son Benjamin Scott Atnip; his stepsons, Glen Dunkel and Carl Dunkel; and his siblings, Richard Atnip, Sarah Owens and Peggy Caskey.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia "Suzie" Hazelton Atnip; his children, Cindy Bryant (Mike) of Dallas, GA and Averil Heath Atnip (Angie) of Lexington, NC; his stepson Gary Dunkel (Robin) of Columbia, TN; his grandchildren, Tyler Bryant (Chelsea) of Dallas, GA, Shea Bryant of Dallas, GA, Ayla Atnip and Grayson Atnip; and his siblings, Joyce Elliot of Madison, AL, Nancy Balch (Bobby) of Decatur, AL, Larry Atnip (Eleanor) of Fort Meyers, FL and Jeannie Balch (Grant) of Harvest, AL. He is also survived by five step grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren.
