He is survived by: his wife Melanie Waddell Varela; his brother Roy Varela; his children, Joyce Gandy, Lynn Varela, Benedict Varela IV, Pamela Creamer, Kattie Duncan and Meghan Dickson; his grandchildren, Calysta, Jason, Quin, Riley, Danina, Donald, Myles, Madilyn and Maveryk; and his great grandchild Margaret.
