He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Richard Forrest Kelsey, Sr. and Ella Dudney Kelsey; and his daughter Martha Kelsey Edwards. He is survived by: his wife Pat Kelsey; his children, Donna Kelsey Faulkner, Katharine Kelsey Elliott (Chris) and Richard Forrest Kelsey, III (Carmen); his grandchildren, Ashley Thompson (Jim), Bo Faulkner, Sam Faulkner (Emily), Julien Faulkner, Kelsey Wright (Christopher), Savannah Fay (Brian), Alexandria Cawthon (Ryan), Richard Forrest Kelsey, IV and Stonewall Kelsey (Monica); his sister Katharine Pearson; and his nephew Rand Pearson (Sapna). He is also survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
