He was predeceased by: his father Laverne Franklin; his son Bradley Nicholson; and his mother Laverne Clement. He is survived by: his wife Jeanne Nicholson; his sister Carolyn Feathers; and his daughter Kathryn Whitsell (Jason).

“I first met Jim in 1991 when I became his coworker. Little did I know that this would lead to a special and close friendship that endured to this day. I had a special bond with Jim. We enjoyed talking about aviation, birds, and the Andy Griffith show. It was not uncommon for Jim and I to talk on the phone weekly. I am going to deeply miss those conversations. Jim was a special friend to me and I love him. In a way he was family to me. God Bless you Jim Nicholson. Tim Harris”
