He was predeceased by: his wife LaJuan Melton Smith; and his son Kent Smith. He is survived by: his children, Gary Smith (Becky) and Shanon Phillips (Rodney); his daughter-in-law Joy Smith; and his sister Frances Stimpson (Larry). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
