He was predeceased by: his parents, Evan Whitis and Opha Dugger Whitis; his wife Shirley Ann Whitis; and his brothers, Louie Whitis, Lonnie Whitis and Clell Whitis.
He is survived by: his son James Whitis of Clinton, Tennessee; his sisters-in-law, Thelma Davison and Joyce Leathers; and his nieces and nephews, Becky Whitis Langner, Libby Whitis, Earlene Davison Giglierano, Kimberly Moor Poore, Evan Whitis, Scott Whitis, Michael Davison and Sean Leathers. He is also survived by several grand nieces, grand nephews and friends.
