He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles R. Burgess and Jearl D. Burgess of Decatur; and his nephew James L. Bates. He is survived by: his sister Pamela G. Bates; his nephews, Nicholas L. Trueblood of Decatur, TN and Charles M. Bates of Chattanooga, TN.; and his great-niece Vayah Horton of Chattanooga, TN.
His military service and contributions to his community will always be remembered.
