He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Sr. Thompson and Virginia Thompson; and his stepdaughter Ann Marie Pittenger. He is survived by: his wife Sarah "Ann" Thompson; his daughters, Kim Arnold (Earl) and Karen Hoskins (Scott); his grandchildren, Rhett Arnold, Landon Arnold, Katie Beth Hoskins and Cameron Hoskins; and his sisters, Cheryl Moore and Karen Harlow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hilldale United Methodist Church.
