He is survived by: his daughters, Kimberly Brinkmann (Kevin) and Kellie Thompson (Chris); and his sister Beth Eckert (Wichita). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer's Association.

“We met Don and Carol a few years ago while we were on tour of Austria and Switzerland. The wives were talking and found out that both Don and myself were both retired pilots. That was all it took and Don and I became instant friends. The wives helped support the local economy while Don and I talked about Airlines and Corvettes and everything in between. Don was a man of principal and conviction and wisdom. I will miss the conversations we had and the friendship we shared. David P. Schilstra”
