He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Short and Mary Short (Cavin); and his wife Betty Short (Garber). He is survived by: his children, Caroline Short, Ivan Short and Brad Short. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requested that memorial contributions be made to the Hawkins County Animal Shelter.
