He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Elisha, Donnie Mae Shelton (Ellis), Newman and Lenora Johnson (Hensley); and his cousins, Rusty Shelton, Johnny Paul Darnell (JP) and Mark Brooks.
He is survived by: his parents, Carl Shelton and Marie Shelton (Johnson); his children, Bryan Shelton (Caroline), Colby Shelton, Emma Shelton and Mercy Jane Wilcox; the mothers of children, Tammy Ward Shelton of Greeneville and Julie Tweed Carter of Greeneville; his brother Bryan "Todd" (Becky Shelton); his nephew Jacob Owen (Brooke); his niece Grace Shelton; his aunts and uncles, Robert Shelton, Judy Darnell, Peggy (Jack Bryant), Walter (Rhonda Johnson) and Wayne (Jeanette Johnson); and his great-aunt Polly Harrison of Greeneville.
