He was predeceased by: his parents, Marion Burgner and Vinnie Burgner; and his siblings, Ray, Emmett, Farley, Howard, Walter Burgner, Reba Felts and Gladys Ricker.

He is survived by: his wife Lillian Burgner; his daughter Debi Surrett; his grandchildren, Chad (April Grindstaff), Sophia Surrett and Jodi Surrett; his great grandchildren, Ethan and Ryland Grindstaff; his sister Dell Greenway; and his nephew David Higgins.
